Build a Bookcase! Beginner Woodworking 101

Beginner

Our Denver beginner woodworking classes are for individuals with little to no experience. It is also great for students wanting to brush up after taking a break from the art. We start with the basics for all your future woodworking projects. We pick our lumber, mill to size, glue panels, and learn a basic but strong method of joinery. We learn the use and safety of the table saw, jointer, planer, router and other tools. All students will leave class with a completed table or bookcase.

Beginner classes are offered once or twice per month. We alternate between the beginner bookcase (see bookcase class) and beginner table class (see table class). Class Fees includes all materials, safety equipment, and use of equipment. Check out the class schedule here or at woodworksstudio.com. All classes are offered in Denver at 2555 S Santa Fe, Unit F2. Intermediate classes are available for the more advanced woodworker or after completion of the beginner class.

What will I learn in the beginner class?

You will learn to safely use the table saw, jointer, planer, miter saw and router to build either a small table or small bookcase. We teach each class every other month. You will learn the process of gluing up panels to look like one board. Then, you will learn a simple method of joinery that will allow you to build many other projects. The lessons learned in the beginner class are the most important lessons for all of your next projects. We learn how these machines work together to make a board square and straight. At the end, we learn how to finish the project to look professional with little effort. You will do the final finish at home, but we discuss how to make it look great with stain and top coat.

Where and when are the beginner classes?

Beginner classes are offered once or more per month and the dates are listed on the calendar below and at woodworksstudio.com. Both the table and bookcase classes are for beginners so check both to find all beginner dates available. The beginner classes are usually two-day classes from 9-1 both Saturday and Sunday (we book quickly so usually offer an overflow class in the afternoons from 1pm-5pm, check calendar). If we fill that overflow class, I will open another overflow class the next weekend that will also show up on the calendar when available. Some overflow classes are longer one day classes instead of two shorter days. Since we continually open new class dates, always check back for new dates added. If you have any questions, please call Tracy at 303-902-8856. We try to accommodate everyone. The main location for this class is 2555 S Santa Fe Unit F2, Denver. Our large shop is on the southwest corner of the 2555 S Santa Fe building and down a large ramp. There is a sign at the bottom of the ramp that says (Units F1-11) and our shop is down that corridor. Check the dates in this listing for dates or give me a call at 303-902-8856.

Is it safe?

Yes, woodworking can be a very safe hobby if you have quality instruction. I have been teaching this beginner class for over 20 years and I have NEVER had any significant injury in this class.

Are there any other fees?

NO, the class fees listed include all the materials and supplies needed.

Can I get a Gift Certificates?

Yes, you can! You can purchase any class for your wife, husband, or friend and relax because it will never expire, and they can use the gift certificate for any class. You can purchase one class and if they decide they would rather take a different class, that is no problem. The money is transferable. I can also send you an electronic certificate for them upon request. The best way to do this is to go directly to www.woodworksstudio.com and click on the gift certificate button there.
