8 Week Advanced Beginner Handbuilding: 4 Ambitious Projects - Furnishing the Kitchen Counter

Intermediate

"Four Ambitious Projects" is perfect for hand builders with at least 8 weeks of experience.

The 4 Special Projects curriculum is back and bolder than ever with a brand new quartet of forms and techniques to tickle your fancy and draw on your inspirations. This time, we're going into the kitchen and creating dreamy objects that will live on the kitchen counter, characters that will elevate our culinary rituals and nest into our daily rhythms. We will test our engineering skills with a tea box project constructed from stiff slab (functioning little drawers! architecture! decoration!), hone our Xacto expertise with a perforated garlic keeper (airflow! darkness!), balance our touch with an elegant soft slab pitcher (fluid dynamics! angle of repose!), and expressively sculpt a charming little salt "pig" to protect our fleur de sal (celebration! protection!). I can't wait to see you there-- this may be my favorite cluster of projects yet.

Each week will consist of instructor demos and personal making time. Students will also have full access to the studio during open hours for the duration of their 8 Week course (6am-2am All Days).

Shelf space and 25lbs of clay is provided to each student. Tools and other equipment are avaible at the studio for communal use.

I earned a BFA in ceramics from University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2018, where summer opportunities to teach ceramics to youths nurtured an ethic of playful earnestness in my work. Now, as a full time potter and ceramics instructor for adults, I believe a clay practice offers a powerful opportunity to not only develop a technical toolkit, but to also explore our philosophy and intention around making. In my teaching, I emphasize the potency of clay as a medium as well as the ways in which form and surface dovetail to elevate a user's experience of the objects we create. I strive to imbue my work and my introduction with humor, curiosity, and observation, and hope to convey the harvest around and within. Nerd out with me about pottery, vegetable gardening, making music, cooking, D&D, bouldering, and dogs!
