8 Week Advanced Beginner Handbuilding: 4 Special Projects
Intermediate
"Four Special Projects" is perfect for hand builders with at least 8 weeks of experience.
These four assignments aim to build on your existing skills, expose you to fresh techniques, strengthen your attention to detail, and enrich your conceptual grounding. First, our “12 hour mug” project strengthens our sense of wonder and triumph through frustration. Then we will construct wall-hanging or free-standing "altars" from slabs, which will test our problem solving and construction techniques. Penultimately, we will construct articulately coiled vessels (free-formed or templated), with a delicate touch, sense of composition, and well-considered surface treatment. Finally, we’ll conclude with an animal-themed lidded jar. These assignments are designed to encourage you to play, fail, stretch your comfort zone, and import ideas, interests, and skills from other contexts.
Each week will consist of instructor demos and personal making time. Students will also have full access to the studio during open hours for the duration of their 8 Week course (6am-2am All Days).
Shelf space and 25lbs of clay is provided to each student. Tools and other equipment are avaible at the studio for communal use.
