An experienced blacksmith will be on hand to provide support and answer questions, but please note that Open Studio time does not include any formal demonstrations or lessons. Take advantage of this dedicated time to revisit projects and get that extra practice in or use larger tools to prep parts for your home shop.
Materials and consumables will be available for purchase, but you are welcome to bring your own. Call ahead if you'd like a list of what will be available and current pricing.
Tools available include; a 110kg power hammer, 40 and 100-ton hydraulic presses, 6-ton fly press, Belt grinders, chop saws, band saws, anvils, hammers, top tools, multi-process welders, propane forges, Drill presses, and more!
Access to each of these tools is unlocked by taking a class that includes training on the tool and passing a safety quiz with one of our instructors.

Languages spoken: English
Steve Rollert has been making knives for over 40 years, starting with a Burr King grinder in the spare bedroom of a duplex in Denver, Colorado in 1980. Steve's interest in knifemaking started while attending Skunk Hollow Blacksmithing School. After graduation Steve sought out Japanese Swordsmith, Kuzan Oda, then in Colorado Springs. Kuzan taught Steve the Japanese mindset and disciplines of knifemaking necessary to produce knives of enduring quality and value.
Steve has progressed to producing Damascus Steel and hand forging fine blades in his large shop in Keenesburg, CO. He is well known for his quality pattern welded Damascus and his earlier work in cable welded Damascus.
Along with making custom knives, Steve has also been an avid Martial Artist since his late teens, studying a variety of disciplines, focusing heavily on martial blade techniques. He applies his martial experience in designing knives with the practitioner in mind.
In 1999 Steve started Keen Edge Knives in response to a number of requests for high quality training knives from his fellow martial artists. Over the years Steve has strived to provide the best quality product possible at a reasonable price.
Steve is an innovator, an artist, a dedicated husband and father. Above all else Steve is a dedicated follower of Christ, holding his faith as the guiding light in his life.
