Tradition Joinery Sculpture - Two Day

Intermediate

This two-day intermediate blacksmithing class is for people with some forging experience. The skilled instructor will teach you forging mechanics, hammer control, and proper forging techniques as we forge rivets, collars, mortise/tenons, and wedged joints. The skills will culminate in making a small forged sculpture. Each one is decorated and designed by your hands! The more experience you have the more styles or variations in design you may be able to make!

Students will get an introduction to using some power tools, fly press, and hand hammering techniques while working in this intermediate class. This will allow students of all strength and energy levels to succeed in this class!

We break for lunch around noon for 30 - 45 minutes. There are plenty of places to go nearby, or you can store and prep your sack lunch in our kitchenette.

Please wear non-synthetic clothes and closed-toe shoes! A water bottle is highly recommended. Notebook or personal safety gear or tools are optional.

All safety gear, tools, and materials are provided.

He studied welding at Front Range Community College, a degree in Forged Architectural Ironwork at The American College of the Building Arts in Charleston, South Carolina, and attended the Artist Blacksmithing program at Hereford College of Arts in Herefordshire, England. His experience was honed with 5 to 8-month internships during the summers with James Makely at Living Design Studios forging and fabricating architectural details, DeSantis metal art creating colorful aluminum sculpture, Ann Vogt Jewelry learning the basics of silversmithing, and with David Norrie at David Norrie Studios designing and forging custom architectural pieces. He used his free time in Charleston to create a blacksmiths dream garage shop with Dakota Myers, while living in England he used breaks in classes to travel by train through 13 countries in Europe, visiting blacksmithing shops, learning, and working for a wide variety of smiths along the way.
